Chris Sykes
Chris Sykes studied percussion with Chris Bradley at Huddersfield
University and since graduation his focus has been on drum kit
and Latin percussion. His years with the band Kava Kava saw the
completion of two albums and several singles, attracting international
distribution, music press and airplay, as well as tours across
Europe.
More recently Chris has put to use his study of Afro-Cuban music
as both conguero and timbalero with his own 10-piece salsa band,
'Los Martillos'. He is active on the jazz circuit, including arranging
and performing new compositions with groups such as 'Sybil Beats',
who have recently completed a lottery project with the release
of a CD, "Tempted".
Chris has worked in the theatre environment, developing percussion
parts for three new musicals by the 'Made in Shefffield' company,
and is also currently working in a small ensemble performing Klezmer
dance music.
In October 2000 Chris appeared at the Metropole in Cork with
the funk band 'Essential Rhythm', as part of the annual international
jazz festival.
Chris is most consistently active on the jazz circuit, playing
in various line-ups around West Yorkshire and the North West
